The golden peso was in circulation since the end of the XIX century. New peso was introduced in 1970, after vast devaluation of argentina currency. In 1983 it was replaced by Peso Argentino at 1:10.000 ratio. Which was further substituted by Austral at 1:1000 ratio. Austral was changed back to peso, 1 peso of 1992 equalled 1000 australes, and is used till nowadays. Redesigned banknotes are being introduced now. 1 peso equals 100 centavos.
